About the Colorado Cherokee Circle Larry Ellis Scholarship

The Colorado Cherokee Circle (CoCC) announces the Colorado Cherokee Circle Larry Ellis Scholarship Program.

Under the Program, two (2) $1000 scholarships will be awarded to documented Cherokee students. Awards will be disbursed in two payments for semester classes, $500 Fall and $500 Spring or 3 payments for quarter classes, $333 Fall, $333 Winter and $334 Spring.

  1. First priority consideration will be members and/or children of the CoCC in good standing, who are Cherokee Nation citizens, and who are, or will be, attending an accredited college, university, or another institution for the purpose of attaining a higher education.
  2. Second priority will be any Cherokee Nation citizen students from Colorado who are, or will be, attending any accredited institution of higher education.
  3. Third priority will go to any registered Cherokee citizen of one of the other federally recognized Cherokee tribes who resides in the State of Colorado. They will be required to meet the same qualifications as stated in the application for scholarship grants.

Program Guidelines and Priorities

  • Seeking Native American students with a record of volunteerism in the community in non-school sponsored activities and participation in extracurricular school activities. 
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a federally recognized Cherokee Tribe.
  • Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in their last two years of school (high school or college) and attend or plan to attend a 2- or 4-year accredited college or technical school.
  • Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the school. Selected students must submit their class schedule and school ID before funds are disbursed.
  • Application deadlines: Fall scholarship – August 15, 11:59 p.m. Spring scholarship – November 15, 11:59 p.m. Late applications are not accepted.
  • The applications will be reviewed, and recipients selected by a committee consisting of volunteer members of the CoCC. The scholarships will be awarded in August of each year for the Fall semester/Quarter and December of each year for the Spring semester/Quarter.
